Frequently Asked Questions
How do I extend the life of my soap bar?
It is important to keep your soap bar dry between uses. We recommend using a well draining soap dish or soap saver pad. If used in the shower, try to store your soap bar away from the shower stream and on a well draining soap dish or pad. Our bars can last up to 6 weeks with daily shower use if stored correctly, but we cannot guarantee that your bar will last that long.
Why are there no expiration dates on your soap bars?
Soap does not generally expire. Dust off one of those bars of soap in grandma's bathroom cabinet, and you'll see what we mean. It will still do its job and clean your skin. However, because fragrances fade over time, we will pull our soaps and donate them after about a year if they do not sell. If you believe your soap has gone bad, please reach out to us with photos and a description of why you believe your soap has expired.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes! If you would like a custom batch of lip balms, sugar scrubs, body butter, soap, or bath soaks, or if you would like a customized gift set, please email us at email@example.com. All items (with exception of gift sets) have a minimum purchase requirement and must be paid in full in advance. If we agree to make your custom order, we will keep you up to date with estimated shipping times, progress photos, etc. Not all requests can be granted, and there may be an added wait time if we have to order fragrances or other ingredients that we do not normally carry. Soaps must cure for a minimum of 4 weeks prior to shipping, so please take this into consideration.
Do you take wholesale orders?
Yes! If you would like to set up a wholesale account with us, especially if you are a local business, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you provide free products to social media influencers in exchange for exposure?
No, we do not provide free products on request. We can't eat exposure, nor can we make soap with it. However, we love to reward our loyal customers with discounts or free items if they leave reviews on their social media.
What if I have an idea for a soap bar?
Please email it to us at email@example.com. If we love your idea and decide to use it, we will credit you and send you a free bar!
Are your products vegan?
While some of our products may be vegan, we do not market them as such. We do not use animal fats in our products, but Tussah silk is used in most of our soaps to add slip and luxury to the bar. We also use goat milk, buttermilk, beeswax, honey, and other additives in some of our products. If you are trying to avoid certain ingredients, please check the ingredients list of any product prior to purchase. You can also email us for assistance with locating items that do not contain certain ingredients.
Are your products palm oil free?
Some soaps are palm free, but most of our soaps were made with palm oil. Palm oil is wonderful in soap and helps create a harder, longer-lasting bar. It is controversial because palm crops are a major contributor to the deforestation of habitats of endangered species, such as the pygmy elephant and orangutan. However, boycotting palm oil is not the answer for a few reasons: 1) It is one of the most commonly used cooking oils across the globe. 2) It is the most efficient vegetable oil crop, in that it takes far less land to produce the same amount of oil yield. In comparison, other vegetable oil crops, such as soybean, coconut, or sunflower oil, need between 4 and 10 times the amount of land to produce the same yield of oil. 3) Palm oil can be harvested ethically and sustainably. We exclusively use palm oil from reputable suppliers who are certified members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an organization with strict policies to ensure transparent, ethical, and sustainable palm farming. For all of these reasons, we will continue to use RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil in our products.
Are your products made with fair trade & cruelty free ingredients?
We do not test any of our products on animals, and we source our ingredients from ethical, sustainable, and/or cruelty free suppliers, such as Baraka and Nurture Soap, whenever possible.
What are you doing to reduce/eliminate single use plastics?
We only use eco-friendly, biodegradable glitters rather than traditional glitters made from micro-plastics. However, in order to adhere to proper manufacturing practices and to keep your products clean and protected, we do use single-use plastics in our packaging as well as our gloves. At this time, there are very limited options for sustainable packaging, and those options are not optimal or cost-effective for a business as small as ours. We want our items to be as affordable as possible, and switching entirely to eco-friendly packaging would mean higher product costs for you. However, we don't like single-use plastic anymore than you do, and we continue to research and monitor the available options. Our goal is to transition to more eco-friendly alternatives when economically feasible.
What if I am sensitive/allergic to an ingredient you use?
Please carefully read the ingredients list on any product prior to purchase. Also, keep in mind that while we sanitize all of our equipment between uses, we manufacture all of our products using the same equipment and production space. If you need help identifying items that were not made with certain ingredients, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to assist. Finally, if you order a Pandora's Box, which contains 3 random soap bars, please use the comment box at checkout to specify your preferences (such as sensitivities/allergies, as well as scents or ingredients that you do or do not prefer). While we cannot honor all preferences, we will honor all sensitivities/allergies. If we find that we cannot honor your sensitivities/allergies, we will notify you and, if you wish, cancel and refund your order.
SAFETY & USE NOTICE: All Folklorica Soapery products are for external use only, are not formulated for children's use, and are not formulated for the face, anal area, or groin unless specified in the product description. Keep all products out of reach of children and pets. These products are not meant to treat or cure any medical condition or illness. While we uphold quality manufacturing practices and utilize clean, sanitized equipment, we utilize the same storage and manufacturing spaces and equipment for all products. It is advisable that customers without known allergies test our products on a small area, as with any new skin product. If redness or irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
What is your shipping policy?
Please inspect your order upon receipt and contact us immediately if the item is damaged or if you receive the wrong item so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right. You will be asked to supply one or more photos of the damaged or wrong item(s). If the package arrived damage, you should also take photos of the package itself along with the contents so that a claim may be filed with the shipping carrier. We strongly recommend purchasing Route package protection upon checkout. If you purchased Route package protection, contact Route for next steps upon receipt of a damaged order, or if your order is deemed missing, and a replacement order will be shipped to you promptly.
HEAT NOTICE: With hot and extreme temperatures in the warmer months, please note that your package may be exposed to temperatures that are not ideal for the products enclosed. Candles, body butter, lip balm, and other items with lower melt points may melt, soaps may sweat, etc. Some items may only be available for local purchase during warmer months for this reason. If you choose to order items with a lower melt point during warmer months, please bring your package in from the heat right away and allow to come to a comfortable room temperature. Please be considerate of this situation. The heat in transit is beyond our control. We ask that you refrain from ordering if this will be an issue for you.
Local Delivery: We can deliver your order if you live within a 20-mile radius of Acworth, Georgia or if you can arrange pickup within that radius. If you are interested in local delivery and you have not ordered from us before, please email us prior to your order to determine whether delivery is feasible for your location and to schedule delivery. Delivery timeframes may vary, as this is a small, part-time business. You may also pick up your order at one of our pop-up market events. Please see our Events page for our market schedule, and let us know if you prefer event pick-up. If we agree to pick-up or delivery, we will refund any shipping costs paid at time of order.
Order Processing Time: Processing time is typically 1-3 business days but may be longer in some cases. We are a very small, part-time operation. We will ship all orders as quickly as we can. Please check the alert at the top of the website for the current processing time.
Shipping & Handling: We ensure the most discounted rates we can manage, but shipping is expensive these days, as are packaging and shipping supplies. We offer free shipping on orders over $50, but we reserve the right to revoke this option at any time if it becomes too expensive.
Order Changes & Cancellations: If you need to cancel an order or add additional items to it, please reach out to us ASAP and we will do our best to honor your request unless shipping has been arranged for your order. If your order is shipped, or if a shipping label has been purchased for your order, all sales are final.
Missing Packages: It is your responsibility to ensure that the address you enter at checkout is correct. We are not responsible for packages once the shipping carrier tracking shows that it was delivered, even if someone stole it from your porch or if it was accidentally delivered to the wrong address. If you believe your package was lost in transit, please contact your local USPS/UPS office. We strongly recommend adding Route Package Protection to your order at checkout.
Damaged Items: If your items arrive damaged, please take photos and contact the shipping carrier and Folklorica Soapery immediately. Again, we recommend adding Route Package Protection to your order at checkout.
International Orders: If you are an international customer, we love you but we urge you to support your local small businesses and save yourself the excess shipping costs, duties, taxes, and any other fees associated with buying from us. At this time, the only international orders that we will accept are to Canada and to service members serving overseas. All other international orders will be canceled. Canadian and service member customers, please be aware that you will be responsible for any additional duties, taxes, and fees. Please keep in mind that transit times may be extended and that some items may be at increased risk of breakage during these extended transit times.
Customer Information: Please make sure the contact information (including address, email address, and phone number) that you enter at checkout is correct so we can ensure that your order is shipped to the right place. We may also need to contact you about your order.
What is your refund/returns policy?
All sales are final except in cases of damage or seller error. Any refund or replacement requests should be submitted to us by email at email@example.com. We will notify you once we’ve received your request. If approved, you’ll be refunded on your original payment method, or a replacement will be shipped to you within 5 business days. If the replacement item is out of stock, we will contact you to offer a refund or a different item. For refund requests, please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund. Refunds will be determined on an individual basis. No refunds will be given due to personal dislike of scent, texture, or design. Please keep in mind that every nose is different, and scents may be perceived differently per person. We do our best to describe the scents based upon the scent notes of the fragrance and essential oils that are used. Also, due to the handcrafted nature of our products, designs and weights will vary slightly. All weights listed on the website are the minimum net weights for each product. Your product will be greater than or equal to the listed net weight.
Folklorica Soapery, LLC is not responsible for injuries or accidents. Darkly or strongly colored soaps or bath products may discolor wash cloths or surfaces. It is the consumer's responsibility to store soap in an appropriate vessel or on an appropriate surface. It is the consumer's responsibility to practice fire safety when using candles and to abide by all instructions and warnings on the bottom of the candle vessel.
We do not share your information with anyone, and we do not spam you with notifications. Whether you pay through Shopify or other payment methods, Folklorica Soapery does not store or have access to your credit card or bank account information.
