About the Bar
Absinthe has quite the reputation as a psychoactive beverage, and it was banned in many countries through most of the 20th century. Adding to its salacious reputation, in the late 19th to early 20th centuries some producers took shortcuts with the process and used toxic copper salts to artificially produce the famous green color that would traditionally come from the chlorophyll in the herbs used to make absinthe. However, this anise-flavored spirit has made a comeback, and more recent studies have shown that it is not quite as potent as once believed. While traditional absinthe was made with wormwood, hyssop, fennel, melissa, and other herbs, these days Switzerland is the only country that has any legal parameters for labeling a spirit absinthe. This means that if you buy it from any other country, there’s no telling what you may get.
This soap is a nod to absinthe’s reputation and traditions. It is light green, as is traditional absinthe, and it features a glittery green glycerin soap fairy on top, as absinthe was referred to in literature as the green fairy.
